Candles In Every Shape

Before lighting, ensure the wick is trimmed to ¼ inch using a wick trimmer, nail clippers, or scissors. Wicks that are too long or crooked may result in uneven burning, dripping, or flaring. Maintain a clear wax pool by removing wick trimmings, matches, and debris. Always use a candleholder designed for candle use, which should be heat resistant, sturdy, and sufficiently spacious to contain any melted wax or drips.

Burn candles in a well-ventilated area, avoiding drafts, vents, or air currents to prevent rapid or uneven burning, sooting, and excessive dripping. Always supervise lit candles and never leave them unattended. Keep candles away from anything flammable, such as furniture, drapes, bedding, carpets, books, paper, and decorations. Ensure candles are out of reach of children and pets, and avoid placing them where they could be knocked over. Refrain from touching or moving a burning candle or liquid wax. For safety, cease burning a candle when ½ inch remains in the container or 2 inches for pillar candles. Position burning candles at least three inches apart from each other.

If the flame of a candle becomes too high or flickers repeatedly, extinguish it, let the candle cool, trim the wick, and check for drafts before relighting. Avoid using candles as nightlights or when there's any chance of falling asleep. Use caution when using candles during a power outage; flashlights and battery-powered lights are safer alternatives. Never use candles during a power outage to search in closets or when fueling equipment like lanterns or kerosene heaters. When extinguishing a candle, use a candle snuffer to prevent hot wax from splattering. Avoid using water to extinguish a candle, as it can cause splattering and may break the glass container candle.
